CTA Red Line Extension Federal Funding Grant Agreement Signing Event

The signing ceremony and press conference for the Full Funding Grant Agreement (FFGA), which pledges $1.973 billion will be provided to CTA to build the Red Line Extension Project. With this project, the Red Line will finally be extended from 95th Street to 130th Street, fulfilling a promise made to the South Side of Chicago nearly 60 years ago.

With this signing, the Red Line Extension is greenlit to be constructed. Construction is expected to begin in late 2025/early 2026, with the extension and four new stations at 103rd , 111th, Michigan near 116th and 130th Street, and be completed by 2030.

Fall Community Meet & Greet

On Friday, October. 25, 2024, the CTA Red Line Extension (RLE) team held its Fall Community Outreach Meet & Greet event! This was an opportunity to meet members of the RLE project team, including our newly hired contractor Walsh-VINCI Transit Community Partners, which will design and build the historic Red Line Extension. The community was able to view a segment of what the new elevated track bridge will look like. 

Design Build Contractor (DBC) Workshop

On Tuesday, October 15, 2024, CTA Red Line Extension (RLE) held the DBC / Kick-Off Meeting to discuss the Capital Improvement Program. This meeting was held at the future RLE Project Office located at 11203 S. Corliss Avenue

Shop Roseland

The Red Line Extension (RLE) outreach team recently joined the Greater Roseland Chamber of Commerce (GRCC) for its annual Shop Roseland event. This event was held at the corner of 115th and Michigan, near the future Michigan Red Line station. The event featured dozens of vendors and entrepreneurs including food trucks and local artisans. CTA and the Red Line Extension booths anchored the event. Now in its fourth year, Shop Roseland allows GRCC to showcase and support businesses in Roseland and surrounding communities. Led by Executive Director Andrea Reed, the organization is dedicated to strengthening economic vitality and community development within Roseland

Drone Interns Graduation and Celebration

In a unique partnership between the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), Chicago Public Schools (CPS) and the RLE’s Construction Management contractor REDefine Southside Partners (RSP-JV), three students who are licensed drone pilots worked alongside CTA and its partners in documenting the preparation of building the historic Red Line Extension. Corliss is located in the Pullman community, which is part of the RLE project footprint. Interns presented an overview of their experience with RSP-JV and received certificates of completion on behalf of RSP-JV and CTA staff, on August 1, 2024.

CTA and RSP-JV Outreach Event
